Artist Statement

My work is conceptual, living in a world of reflection rather than one of concrete representation. It attempts to give perspective through these forms, allowing one to self-reflect on a certain sense of existentialism that we all should frequently visit. Not to say that the practice is rooted deep in complexity but rather that its minimalism requires thought, any thought. It is no longer about a maker but about the work itself. It lives to question no one but itself, hoping for resolution. Material is clear, often industrial and obviously displayed as honesty in material is honesty itself. The man made is reduced in an attempt at understanding true control, removing or wishing to remove the humanity that is human emotion. Once removed it is maybe possible to admire the concrete, admire the steel, admire the wire and purely look. Who knows if possible. Only a further resolution will tell if this work is at all what it wants to be. Bare work. Bones without flesh.

Bio

Toronto based contemporary artist Marina Diolaiti has been investigating spatial awareness and relations of shape and form for what seems to be a greater understanding of art in space. Through sculpture as well as installation based work, Diolaiti has expanded on these concepts in search of artistic resolutions. Exploring themes of reflection beyond representations of reality, her practice often results in the reduction of the human through the use of man made materials. Her work often resonates with ideas founded in early minimalism and those of modern conceptual art aiming to urge a self reflection within viewers.
